Health Center Named Hummingbird Cove

With the New Year a new name! The Hermitage Health Center became Hummingbird Cove. It has a wonderful new look and the addition of full size couches and wing chairs brings a welcome feeling of home. Residents and staff decided on the name and celebrated the change with a New Years party. There is now a resident art gallery across from the nurses' station. The Eastern SHore Art league has been teaching painting and drawing classes on Tuesday mornings. As residents works are completed, they are framed and displayed.

Art and Foreign Travel

The Eastern Shore Art League started teaching weekly classes in May. The first was learning about drawing and sketching. These classes are for residents and their family members. For information contact the Wellness & Leisure Department.

Residents Bud and Marion Barlett conduct regular slide shows of their travels around the world. After showing a trip to Africa, a local gorilla named Stella, dropped in for photos and to visit with residents for some monkey business. Stella travels the Shore appearing in various communities, restaurants and shops spreading fun and joy. She resides at the Eastern Shore Community Services Board

Upgrades and Renovations Continue

The window treatments arrived for the Front Lobby and for the Art Gallery. E Hall is still blocked off as wainscotting is added to the hallway and bathroom upgrades continue.

Health Center Renovations Continue

The Health Center Main Entrance is open and available for visitors. The dining area in the Health Center is under renovation and blocked off. The plan is to complete the Health Center in a timely manner.

Visitors to the front of the building will notice that E Hall, located off the Art Gallery is blocked off. This will remain so until the hallway renovations there are complete.

The Library shelves have arrived and will be installed soon. The Actvitiy staff are working to get their spaces back together and have created an activity room for group activities and future art and craft classes.

Beginning tomorrow, Tuesday January 11th, the Health Center Ambulance Entrance will be closed until further notice. Renovations of the lounge seating area in front of the nurses station will be underway.

All visitors are asked to use the Front Entrance or B Hall entrance. After hours please use the key pads with the security code.

White Christmas - But 14 inches of IT!!!

The storm with high winds blocked many back roads. Our staff stayed long hours and our Environmental staff worked hard to take home and pick the staff whose homes they could reach. They also tried to keep the parking lots and walkways clear enough for access to the building. Residents enjoyed the snow and appreicated our efforts to keep things as normal as possible.

Christmas Open House

The Market Street Methodist Church Bell Ringers and Spencer Annis entertained the group at the Christmas Open House on Dec. 10th. Everyone enjoyed kicking off the holiday season with the sounds of Christmas. Several people took tours of the newly renovated areas and loved the new art gallery off the front lobby.

The front lobby and art gallery area are almost complete.

A Christmas Open House is planned for Friday, Dec. 10 at 7:00pm. Stop by and see all of the changes that have taken place and learn what is still to come over the next 2 years.

The Last of the Roof!!!!

The final section of shingles was added to the last hallway today. The roofers will be here for a week or so more finishing trimming and doing cleanup.

Residents from A Hall will move back after some repairs and cleanup on the hallway.

The front lobby is nearing completion and the business offices are under renovation.

Front Lobby Renovation Underway

The front entrance has been shut down and will continue to be as the front lobby and E Lounge are undergoing renovations. Plans are to have this completed before Thanksgiving. The business offices will be renovated after the lobby.

The final move for assisted living residents will take place this week. Work will begin on A Hall roof by the end of the week.

REMINDER: The main entrance to the building is around the back on G Hall. Turn onto Hermitage Road and enter the first parking lot on the left. We truly appreciate everyone's cooperation and patience throughout this project.

Front Lobby Closed

The Front Lobby is closed for the rest of the week. Please use the B Hall Ramp entrance around the circle. On October 18th the Administrative Offices, Reception Desk will be located on G Hall and the main entrance will be located in the back of the building through G Hall until further notice.

Progress Continues

With all this beautiful weather, work continues on F Hall with roof replacement.

They will continue the work to E Hall next.

The Activity Hall (G Hall) is shaping up. New dry wall has been put up throughout with the conference room being currently renovated.

Despite Rains, Roof Work Continues

The roof project has moved to the Health Center. The Health Center entrance will ONLY be used for emergencies.

All visitors please use the front entrance and walk through the building.

The Health Center parking lot is completely closed until further notice.

Once the Health Center roof is complete, roofing will resume over G and F Hall.

G Hall will be completely renovated due to the rains. All services on this hallway will be displaced for a longer period of time. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Roof & Renovations Continue

The containment went up last week on G Hall. The exercise equipment has been moved to the back of the Social Hall. The card table and puzzle table from the Game Room has been moved to Central Lounge. There are a few books, magazines and newspapers from the library located in the small smoking room off D Hall.

B Hall roof is just about finished and they will begin to tear off G Hall. The residents living on F Hall have met with staff and will be prepared to move sometime next week.

Roof Starts Coming Off

On Monday, June 28th, the roof on C Hall started to be removed and replaced. Once the roof is weather tight, residents from C Hall will be moved back to their original rooms on the hall.

On Tuesday, July 6th, B Hall residents will be moved in preparation for the roof removal on B Hall.

Our Front Lobby is now locked at 7:45pm each night. If you are visiting a resident and do not have a door code, please enter through the rear Health Center Entrance.

The parking lot by the Health Center entrance will be closed until further notice. There will be 2 visitor parking spaces available for your convenience. The parking lot is being used as a hard hat construction zone throughout the roof replacement. It is blocked off for your safety.
All visitors are asked to use the parking lot behind the building, and the front parking lot. Please DO NOT park in designated parking spaces for resident apartments.

Progress Continues

Last week tarps were placed over the roof of the Health Center as extra protection against rain. The renovations are going well and we want to keep everything going smoothly until the roof on the Health Center can be replaced.

Notice:

Starting the week of June 7th, the electricians will be working on B Hall. They will be replacing ceiling lights in resident rooms and in the hallway.

Projects Still Moving Along

The attic insulation will have been removed from the entire building except for F and G halls by next week.

The renovations to C Hall are on schedule. The rooms are receiving new drywall and paint. New flooring is being installed in preparation for future transitions with the roof project.

Phase 1 of the room renovations in the Health Center is on schedule. The new lighting fixtures are being installed and the hallway is shaping up and looking brighter.

Renovation Update

The Health Center entrance re-opened this week. Work continues in rooms 14 - 17.

Insulation will be removed over the rooms on D hall and A hall beginning the week of May 17th.

C hall has been blocked off and is not accessible to the public. Rooms are being renovated on that hallway as well.

Update Meeting Held April 26

A meeting with residents, families and staff took place Monday, April 26. Mike Kearney, ED, RIch Bottone, VP for Development and Carmel Roques, COO, explained current progress and what is to come in the near future.

Due to the need to completely remove all of the insulation in the attic and move various electrical wires throughout the attic space, the roof part of the project will not begin until June. It is still targeted for completion in November, so once the roofers begin it will move much more quickly than originally thought.

Insulation was removed last week (see picture) from over the Health Center.

Painting has begun in HC 14 and is moving along on schedule. Also in two of the private rooms we were able to have the enlarged ADA bathrooms.

Health Center Room 17

We successfully moved residents from C-Hall for the 1st Phase on March 22nd and 24th. Many thanks to the "Moving Angels" who were not only helpful, but made the process fun as well.
The protective barriers were put in place for all of the 1st Phase areas (C-Hall and Health Center Rooms 14 thru 17) on March 25th.

So far:

Insulation has been pulled out of all 1st Phase areas

The electrician has begun work in the Health Center

Demolition has begun in Health Center rooms 15, 16, 17 and work is finishing up in 14.

Dates to be aware of:

April 14th - The Health Center ambulance entrance will be closed due to demolition. Please use the front door when visiting until further notice.

April 26th 11:00 AM - Informational Update meeting for residents, families and staff in the Social Hall.

Renovation Update!

The Hermitage will be replacing the entire pitch roof beginning the end of March. This project will be completed in eight phases with the Health Center being completed simultaneously in the first four phases. We anticipate this project taking 8-12 months, depending on the weather.

Each phase will involve moving our residents off that hallway and to other rooms within the building. We are setting up meetings with residents and families before each phase. Along with the roof, we will be having renovations to various rooms, offices, lobbies and lounges. Our Health Center will also receive renovations and upgrades in rooms, hallways and bathrooms.

Through all of this, our priority is the security, safety and well being of our residents and staff.

As we move through this project, updates will appear in this blog with photographs of progress.
